1. I believe that a simple but elegant layout is very important. It should not be difficult for a user to find information on a website. 2. Color scheme is also very important because the user should be drawn to the website via colors and pictures. If it is visually unappealing then the user is more then likely going to go somewhere else. 3. Quality of information. Making sure the information you are posting on the web is accurate. If the information is inaccurate then it will very much hurt your credit as a website creator.
My top three important elements in web design is hierarchy, repetition, and proximity. Hierarchy helps the author and reader determine what is most relevant and then sub divide. In education technology this is the most important element so that reader knows the main focus. From there the reader such have a number of way sot navigate forward and backwards on the pages. Especially for a younger user. The third element, proximity, is also important for a clear and easy way to access information.
